So, I guess we should just get the big news out there: We have decided to close the Grapevine shop.
Why?
Good question!
It has been a good year up in the DFW area. We've had the pleasure of making friends with some great people and have enjoyed hosting DFW Chapter meetings at the Grapevine shop (because who wouldn't like a 10 course meal prepared over a grill?). It's been crazy though. Between the miles I've racked up on my truck driving from Austin to Temple to Grapevine and back, to the long days spent leaving at 4am just to arrive back home at midnight....I'm tired.
Bo and I finally came to the realization that we were stretched too thin, and our personal and family lives were being impacted. My nieces are now learning to walk and talk and seem to be growing up faster than should be legally allowed...and I'm missing all the milestones because I'm on IH 35 between Grapevine and Temple.
What does this mean for HOT Kayaks?
First, the Temple shop is still going strong and will continue to go strong. In fact, we're now going to be able to focus more on outings and classes and all the fun things about owning a kayak shop!
Second, we will still support the DFW paddling community. We will try to attend the get-togethers (because I hope you all continue to hold monthly meet-ups!) and I'll try to learn how to cook something in a dutch oven over an open flame in order to contribute to the grub. Also, we will continue to have the online store and we SHIP FREE to commercial locations...including Dallas! So, you can still get your gear from us, call us, ask us questions, and even stop by when you're traveling through Temple.
Third, and most important, I do not want to have to haul a ton of boats back to Temple when the Grapevine shop closes. So stop by if you're looking for a new kayak! (hint, hint)
Last but not least, it means that all you Temple-ites will be seeing my smiling face a lot more since I'll be back in town!
Thank you all for your continued support, and we're excited to refocus our attention on our Temple store and our online store!
And my truck is looking forward to not having to drive 40,000 miles in a year...

I completely understand your decision. Sadly, we just found the shop in Grapevine a couple of weeks ago and weren't able to become new friends yet. However, I am in the market for a new kayak. I've really been wanting one of the Native Watercraft models you carry. I will urge my wife that we need to stop by again REALLY soon. Do you know when you will close for good up here?
